StartUp Nijmegen’s Collegetour is inspired by Twan Huys’ world-famous concept. During the College Tour of StartUp Nijmegen, starting entrepreneurs and students get the chance to ask questions to an inspiring, experienced entrepreneur from the Rijk van Nijmegen, led by a moderator. In this edition of the College Tour, they get the chance to ask Coen Burgers.

About Coen Burgers

Coen Burgers (51) owns the fashion chain Coef. Coef is known as an exclusive, hip menswear shop with brands like Filling Pieces and Stone Island in the shop window.

His heart for retail was there from an early age. After secondary school, Coen went to retail school in Nijmegen and found a side job at The Sting. This side job brought him a lot: ‘I still benefit from the experience I gained then,’ he says in an interview with the platform De Ondernemer. The dream for his own business was there even then. When he was almost 40, he dared to tie the knot: it was now or never.

Meanwhile, Coen has owned Coef shops with partner Mark Hoornenborg for almost 15 years. After the Coef concept store and the Coef menswear shop, Coen and Mark also opened shops in Arnhem, Utrecht, Leiden and The Hague. Another store is scheduled to open in March 2023 in downtown Eindhoven.
